Worried you’ve missed your chance to put in tomato or pepper plants this year?

Never fear!  Joe Mudd, a Prince George’s County Master Gardener, plans to be at Community Forklift this Saturday, June 9th from 11am to 4pm to offer some really unusual varieties.  However, he has limited numbers of plants, so come early before he runs out!  If he still has plants at the end of the day, he will return Sunday, June 10th at 11am.  (Questions?  Call Joe at 240-682-4469)

He says:  “These plants are surpluses of those raised for the PGC MG demonstration garden located at the extension office in Clinton. The plants are almost all heirloom, some really funky varieties. The tomatoes include purple, white, streaked, cherry, beefsteak, and green varieties. The peppers include purple, variegated, and yellow.  I am an experienced gardener and have rarely seen any of these particular varieties available as transplants, which is why I grew them from seed myself.  I will have some Burgundy Okra plants available for free (1 per customer).  The proceeds will go to refurbishing a greenhouse for future projects involving the Prince George’s Master Gardeners, as well as assisting other groups with a similar mission and their projects.  Any support the community could give to assist this greenhouse project in moving forward is greatly appreciated.”

Community Forklift is the DC area’s largest thrift store for home improvement and architectural salvage. The Forklift’s huge warehouse is just a few minutes outside NE DC, in the Port Towns area near Hyattsville.   The address is 4671 Tanglewood Drive, Edmonston MD  20781  (but Google maps and some GPS programs may send you to a park about 5 blocks away – so print out directions from http://www.CommunityForklift.com to be on the safe side).

Hope you can make it!
