We are pleased to announce that we have joined fifteen other Greater Washington nonprofits to participate in the Nonprofit Energy Alliance III! By coming together, we were able to secure a great deal with CleanCurrents to secure two years of wind energy (about 2,800 MWh). Because we all switched to wind power, we offset 4,220,221 pounds of carbon dioxide, which is equivalent to the removal of 375 passenger cars off the road or powering 232 homes for two years!
The Nonprofit Energy Alliance is a collaboration between the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, Nonprofit Montgomery, Nonprofit Roundtable of Greater Washington, and the Greater Washington Interfaith Power & Light. The collaboration supports nonprofits that want to make the switch to clean energy by bringing them together to increase purchasing power. In about one year, the collaboration has already helped 42 organizations purchase green energy. These 42 organizations are split into groups of three (Nonprofit Energy Alliance I, II, and III) and each group used their collective purchasing power to secure great deals on clean energy. This has the effect of offsetting over 12 million pounds of carbon dioxide annually, which is the equivalent of taking 1,043 passenger cars off the road!
